Diseases
Histoplasmosis
Also known as Darling's disease, Histoplasmosis is caused by the fungus Histoplasma capsulatum. Primarily affecting the lungs, it also affects other organs and can be fatal if left untreated.

E. Coli
Known as Escherichia colia, this disease results from Gram-negative rod-shaped bacterium that is found in the lower intestine of warm-blooded organisms (endotherms). Most E. coli strains are natural digestive flora and are harmless, but some, such as the highly publicized stereotype O157:H7, can cause serious food poisoning and food recalls. Left untreated, bad E. Coli strains can result in serious illness and death.

Salmonella
Another genus of rod-shaped, Gram-negative bacterium like E. Coli, Salmonella are closely related to the Escherichia genus but are also found in cold-blooded animals. They cause illnesses such as typhoid fever and paratyphoid fever, but are best known as the foodborne illness, salmonellosis.
